The bright green object made headline news after it was spotted flashing across the sky in eastern Japan.
Captured on video by a Nippon TV affiliate weather camera just in time for Halloween, the eerie spectacle managed to generate a great deal of interest after the footage was uploaded online.

While some have suggested that its strange coloration and peculiar change in direction could be indicative of an otherworldly intelligence, the actual explanation may be a lot less exciting.

The prevailing theory right now is that the object was either a particularly bright meteor or a piece of space debris burning up as it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere.

I've seen the same type of thing where I live now. It was a meteorite.

In general I believe space junk moves much slower than meteorites do. The orbital speeds are much slower and thus you see something appear to spend a lot of time burning up. That may be the reason that the object in the OP is thought to be space junk.

I don't see the "peculiar change in direction" you mentioned.

Does any metal other than copper burn green?

Quite a few metals burn green. They are different shades of green. But I doubt you would be able to tell which one it is from seeing it on a meteor like that, not without special equipment.

Thallium is also green. Here are some flame test results for different metals. Barium, molybdenum, boron, thallium, phosphorus, zinc, tellurium, antimony, and lead can be green although the latter 3 are pale. Copper is marked as a blue flame and this is apparently dependent on the halide. http://www.webmineral.com/help/FlameTest.shtml Here is a quote from the AMS, American Meteor Society. http://www.amsmeteors.org/fireballs/faqf/
