ESA wants you to name its new Mars rover

The European Space Agency is offering a prize to the person who manages to come up with the winning name.
The rover, which will be launching in 2020, is part of an ongoing series of astrobiology missions designed to scour the surface of Mars for evidence of past life.

Asking the public to name anything however has become something of a gamble in recent years.

Just recently, the Natural Environment Research Council ended up with 'Boaty McBoatface' after holding a public poll asking Internet users to decide what to call its new polar research vessel.

The name was eventually dropped in favor of RRS Sir David Attenborough.
In the case of the Mars rover, in an effort to avoid it being called 'Marsy McMarsface' or something else equally as ridiculous, organizers have instead opted to accept suggestions via a web form.

Those looking to enter the competition can do so - here.

"Mars is a fascinating destination," said British astronaut Tim Peake. "A place where humans will one day work alongside robots to gather new knowledge and search for life in our solar system."

"The ExoMars rover is a vital part of this journey of exploration and we're asking you to become part of this exciting mission and name the rover that will scout the Martian surface."
