Young boy dies after botched 'exorcism'

Credit: Tony Webster / CC BY-SA 4.0 (adapted) The incident, which took place at the house of Pablo Martinez and his son on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation in the southwest of Tucson, happened back on September 26th.

Martinez told police officers that he believed his son had 'a demon inside him' and had been 'acting demonic' after noticing what he described as 'something evil' while giving him a bath.

He then tried to 'exorcise' the boy by holding him under a hot water faucet for up to ten minutes.When the Pascua Yaqui Police Department first arrived on the scene, Martinez initially told them that they wouldn't understand what had transpired because they were 'not in the right mindset.'

The boy was found lifeless in bed having suffered significant burns.

Martinez is being held in police custody and is due to appear in court on Friday.
