Named after the 1964 Stanley Kubrick movie, this very rare condition gives your hands a will of their own.
Imagine if you had no control over what your hands were doing, or feeling as though the hands attached to your arms were not yours but someone else's to do with as they pleased.

Known as Dr. Strangelove syndrome (or alien hand syndrome), this bizarre affliction might seem like the product of a creative mind, but according to experts, it can and does happen, albeit very rarely.

Those suffering from it might experience an inability to control their hands and are cursed to watch helplessly as their hands perform movements and actions that they have not consciously initiated.
In extreme cases, sufferers might even have to put up with their own hands attacking them.

Exactly what causes Dr. Strangelove syndrome is unclear, however it typically manifests following a stroke or brain tumor and has also been reported as a side-effect of brain surgery as well.

While there is no cure, various treatments and therapies can help to manage the condition.

You can check out a clip of Dr. Strangelove himself struggling to control his hands below.

Yep, I've experienced this myself. Although the bouncers at the lap dancing club won't listen, blame it on the alcohol and throw you out.

My father lost control of his left hand, started moving on it's own. Turned out he had a brain tumor (which eventually was identified as one of many tumors from lung cancer). Once he had the tumor removed, he regained control of his hand.

Yeah, it is just awful when you start absent-mindedly *********** in public due to alien hand syndrome.  And are people helpful and understanding?  No!  They call the police and want to press sexual harassment charges.  Talk about stigmatizing mental health issues amirite? An where are people the most laissez faire about it all?  The New York Subway of all damn places.
