The UK Airprox Board has been looking into an intriguing incident which occurred at 1pm back on November 16th.
According to reports, an RAF Atlas - a large military transport plane - had been flying over Currock Hill in Tyne and Wear, England, when an unknown object passed the aircraft on the right-hand side.

Initial assumptions that the object must be a drone were quickly called into doubt when the flight crew described it as circular in shape with a hollow center, around 3ft wide and black in color.
The investigative board noted that the high altitude of the encounter, along with the physical description of the object, were such that they were "unable to determine the nature" of it.

"Providence had played a major part in the incident and/or a definite risk of collision had existed," the board wrote, while also noting that the short distance between them had posed a significant risk.

As things stand, exactly what the plane's crew encountered that day continues to remain a mystery.

Thats so odd to rule out "drone" no one can be sure of the size shape config of every drone out there, no way. I would guess as drones keep jumping in popularly we will soon be seeing accidents with them.

it suggests that the drone flew past the military plane.... I thought fast drones travelled at 100mph as an average high speed. So not sure how it flew past a military plane? What is strange though is why the speed was not the factor that made them think it was not a drone.....but rather it was its appearance. As Bats says, surely the shape/design isnt a 'strong' indicator of whether its a drone or not... speed however, should be!  so IMO something is not adding up...could simply be bad journalism I guess

I wonder how they determined it was three feet wide. Was it flying right outside the window?
