Two fighter jets scrambled to intercept UFO near airport in India

Image Credit: 1st Lt Christopher Mesnard / DoD The incident began at around 2:30pm local time on Sunday when an unidentified object was reported over the northeastern state of Manipur, prompting flights from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to be grounded for several hours over safety concerns.

According to reports, the object was clearly visible to witnesses on the ground.

So great were concerns over the nature of the UFO that India's air force scrambled two Rafale fighter jets from the Hashimara airbase in the eastern state of West Bengal to look for it.Equipped with advanced sensors, the jets investigated the area but found no sign of the object.

The investigation lasted several hours and clearance to resume flights wasn't given until 5:30pm.

"The UFO was visible with bare eyes moving westwards of the airfield till 4 pm," an official with India's Central Industrial Security Force was quoted as saying.

As things stand, the nature and origins of the object continue to remain a total mystery.
