Is this a genuine UFO crash site ? Image Credit: YouTube / sybervisions
The footage, which shows officials investigating a crashed UFO, has recently racked up millions of views.
At a quick glance, the video - which shows investigators in white overalls examining and photographing a strange saucer-shaped object in a field - looks both convincing and authentic.
The object, which is black with strange markings on its side, shows visible signs of damage and has a reflective surface in which the investigators themselves can be seen as they carry out their work.
In the background, members of the public are clearly visible standing behind a police cordon and as the video continues, a peculiar hatch-like feature comes into view on the side of the craft.
Overall, it's a stereotypical UFO crash site, like something from an episode of The X-Files or from a video clip leaked from the Pentagon's archives that has made its way onto the Internet.
In this particular case, however, the entire thing is also completely fake.
Created by a user who goes by the name SYBERvisions on social media, the footage demonstrates how easily AI can be used to create realistic scenes using only basic and easily accessible tools.
Within a few years, it may be next to impossible to tell whether any given piece of footage is real or fake, adding to the existing difficulty in determining the authenticity of UFO videos.
Even this video, which has been viewed millions of times, has convinced many that it is the real deal.
"My mid-40s uncle showed this to me in a state of panic and awe, he really had no idea it was AI-generated," said one Reddit user.
"This is why we are past the point of images or videos having any meaning," said another.
Just once... I wish that those pesky bast&#%s would crash in a city or at least in a somewhat populated are!! But nooo... Its always just outside of stixville in some field or deep in some dark woods.  In this particular case, however, the entire thing is also completely fake. I don't believe in these alleged UFO crashes. These beings fly halfway across the universe, and when they arrive on Earth, they can no longer control their spaceship? Yes, that makes perfect sense. And even if that really happened, you wouldn't find a video about it on YouTube.
