A new book aims to help us become less addicted to our technology and lead more balanced lives.
In this super-techno age, it's easy to feel the need to be a part of every new social rage on the internet and to own all the latest gadgets. To combat this, a new book called "Digital Diet" proposes ways to help us curb our addiction to technology so that we can live healthier and more balanced lives.
You’re having a lovely conversation, but think nothing of breaking the mood by grabbing your smartphone to confirm (more likely dispute) something. You’re having a lovely, relaxing cup of coffee at your neighborhood hangout, but can’t sit still when the WiFi dies.

I don't "tweet" because it's just lame. Who the hell has that much free time to waste? What's worse is some celebrities hire people to manage their social network pages! I'd live in the 90's too, either that, or the western era. Would actually not mind that at all.

I am 75 yrs old and I all these gadgets attatched to a mobile phone are a pain. ai gave my i pod away and now have a simple phone that actually makes it so easy to phone someone. My washing machine has over ten programs and yet I get by with only one program.I see all the new electronic gadjets advertised an all see to have too many programs etc. The very best time to live in England was the swinging 60s,no electronics to master

Techno should be used to ameliorate human kind quality of life. But the caring of human is not representative of profit $$$ so industries will do all they can to create false needs over techno gadgets just for the sake of consumptions and endless growth of profit. Jacque Fresco is denouncing this careless way to live for 70 year's right now, but heh people seems happy on their status quo and that endless growth for the sake of profit, is an economy that can'T last forever. ^-- even if it's a science fiction serie, it's one hell of a message there.

I'd givie it all up in a heartbeat if I could get my wife to agree to it. The simple way of life is best for family security and the fostering of good, lasting morals.

Eventually, we'll have to; probably sooner than any of us realize.

What Bench Marks would you set on technology? Would you consider the MS word and Excel, CAD softwaresm, Calculators as part of this high level of technology?? Well , if it is high ...we are in deep.. ****** Man... To do some math in scientific formulas and find out you got a mistake...i am dead. To draft a letter up and then do corrections..time after time...i am dead. To make engineering drawings..using a drawing board, T Scale/Square....I am dead. To twirl the rotary dial of a telephone....I am dead.

@Space_Man_Spiff- might I suggest that if more people had been properly educated in spelling and language arts that there would not be a need for editing and re-editing of letters, or whatever document one creates. And if an engineer or scientist cannot do the math or the techincal drawings without the aid of CAD, then they were simply not taught thier chosen subject well enough. Yes, computers certainly make life "easier", unfortunately they also serve to make us less intelligent.

I think there's a difference between using technology as a tool like CAD or a word processor and being constantly immersed in the internet, which is what site like facebook and mobile devices do to people

Stars are only on "People Mag" list because some are more fascinated with the stories of others rather than their own boring life. Without the net, I'm screwed, since I sell my rare books on the net only, reducing the theft by nearly 50%. UM is the my only digital "hangout" and I tossed my enormous Motorola portable phone in 1996.. (yeah they were huge). I only read digital books when I can't afford to buy them (some are in the three or four digits in Euros which is not exactly affordable), and the only thing I wish was digital would be my lawnmower... but it's not. By the way a family started... [More]
