A recent poll indicated that up to half of Americans believe that some UFOs are alien in origin.
The poll, which was conducted as a collaboration between YouGov and the Huffington Post, asked members of the public whether they believed that at least some UFO sightings can be attributed to visitors from space. The results indicated that 48% believed that some UFOs were indeed extraterrestrial in origin while 35% rejected the idea entirely. The remaining voters were not sure one way or the other.
Former nuclear physicist and long time UFO researcher Stanton Friedman was particularly interested in the results. "It's always been intriguing to me how we act as though only kooks and quacks and little old ladies in tennis shoes believe in flying saucers. And it's never been true, at least for 30 or 40 years," he told the Huffington Post.

Polling director Emily Swanson also weighed in on the results of the vote. "A UFO, in theory could be an unmanned spacecraft, just some kind of contact with alien technology, and not necessarily actual aliens being on Earth physically," she said. "It's very interesting that the people who are on the fence actually seem to be somewhat inclined to say that they do believe."

The rumor mill in oz has failed you there my friend. Lamb gyro's are quite popular here. Now, what is it we're talking about here? 48% of septics believe it's possible to be visited my alyens or 48% believe we are presently being visited? Maybe I should just read to OP... "I'll be bach" Gidday Mate! Ahh, had to Google that - we call them Kebab's! But a mixture of meats. The rumour mill suggests that Americans hate the smell of lamb cooking, and it does have an unusual smell, but it is indeed very tasty. Used to be an old TV commercial here that Lamb was for a special occasion, and when he was ... [More]

It's a poll that say's 48% of the people, that were invited to do the survey, answered that they believe some UFO's could be of an extraterrestrial origin. It's interesting, but like most polls, it has the inherent attribute to be inaccurate in relation to the true sentiments of the masses.

Gidday Mate! Ahh, had to Google that - we call them Kebab's! But a mixture of meats. Gidday! Available in chicken or lamb... or both! The rumour mill suggests that Americans hate the smell of lamb cooking, and it does have an unusual smell, but it is indeed very tasty. Used to be an old TV commercial here that Lamb was for a special occasion, and when he was in his height, Tom Cruise's name was the chosen celeb to show up at dinner. Nah, I worked in a restaurant that had lamb on the rotaing skewer and no one ever complained about the smell. Sold many a lamb gyro in my day. With the poll in the... [More]

Not surprising really, I do wonder how much science fiction has influenced their belief system over the last 50 years or so, after all we have whole franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Gate, Alien, Babylon5, Firefly, etcetera, etcetera and because of this many polled no doubt grew up thinking it's a given that aliens exist and possibly are visiting earth. The fact that there was an article on UM about the Jedi "religion" and its followers shows how powerful these influences can be, along with things like Scientology of L. Ron Hubbard with its Hollywood devotees. While I am not saying th... [More]

So very true. The word ignorant comes to mind. With regards to your comments about all the recent sci-fi tv shows and movie hits, don't forget ufo sightings go back for a very very long time, perhaps thousands of years, but it was the high profile sightings in New Mexico and Washington State in the 1940's that really got the ball rolling in the U.S. as it were. Understood, yet I would guess that many were cases of mistaken identity coupled with a bit of "the Russians and/or Germans" are coming" fear that permeated the time during and after WWII. Still there are some genuine unexplained reports... [More]

Oh, of course, and many thought that Germans had some type of secret ufo weapon of some kind. There are as you can see from this community MANY unexplained unidentified flying object reports. The approximate figure is that 95% of them can be explained. Its that 5% that intrigue me and others, who believe there is abundant life in the huge universe, ( and there may be more than one universe) and who have visited in the past and probably are visiting us now.
