Could aliens have wiped themselves out ?

Professor Brian Cox maintains that advanced extraterrestrial civilizations may inevitably self-destruct.
The question of whether we are alone in the universe remains one of the biggest philosophical conundrums of our time. While it seems almost inconceivable that our civilization is alone in the cosmos, the fact still remains that we have yet to see any evidence to the contrary.

The Fermi paradox, which highlights the contradiction between the likely existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the fact that we have still never encountered any, seems to suggest that either there are no aliens out there, that they have simply never found us, or that they are extremely rare.
Now British physicist Professor Brian Cox has weighed in on the debate by offering up another potential explanation. Any sufficiently advanced extraterrestrial civilization capable of traveling to other worlds, he argues, will have already wiped themselves out long ago.

"One solution to the Fermi paradox is that it is not possible to run a world that has the power to destroy itself and that needs global collaborative solutions to prevent that," he said.

"It may be that the growth of science and engineering inevitably outstrips the development of political expertise, leading to disaster."

No there was not.  You have said there was an advanced civilisation, and I quote: believe any advances technological civilization must go through a period of tremble and hegemony wars from which they may not survive! Just no, if any life existed it was microbial, and even that possibility is one massive maybe. And a hopeful one at that.  Why would a smaller planet than earth, further from the sun, so much colder, advance quicker? What is the theory behind that?

Yeah, but all that's hard evidence. We need to look to the loose evidence to make imagination more real.

im guessing your american or russian by your speech of diplomacy, who goes first, we are do, one for one until each others is gone, simple isnt it?? if we find out there is other life in universe i think we might need something better then nukes, if ships invaded out skies and we shot, still gonna destroy ourselves, either way nukes is just bad overall but the power hungry countries dont see that, they just want to have the bigger guns.and war is meaningless these days, i wouldnt fight for my country even if a war broke out, why we fighting? oil? money? religion bs? who got the bigger balls? w... And why do you claim that? In a fantasy world it would be simple.  Your fantasy world.  If you think the real world is that simple, you've got some balloon-bursting revelations coming soon. Nukes aren't bad.  The people using them could be.  Nukes are just inanimate objects that do nothing on their own. If ships invaded our sky, we'll fight, because it's our right. How very cowardly of you.  And what country is that, btw? Not all people want peace.  War is often used as a tool of diplomacy, and it usually works very well in that capacity. Sometimes war is used for selfish reasons, just l... [More]

Scientists have already predicted that we'll lose a great number of our species due to human activity. It’s frightening but true: Our planet is now in the midst of its sixth mass extinction of plants and animals — the sixth wave of extinctions in the past half-billion years. We’re currently experiencing the worst spate of species die-offs since the loss of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Although extinction is a natural phenomenon, it occurs at a natural “background” rate of about one to five species per year. Scientists estimate we’re now losing species at 1,000 to 10,000 time... the path we are headed?

I find it possible that there are some extraterrestrial species that thrusted themselves into extinction. I think that is a strong possibility that this could be the fate of our species, if things don't change. However, I do not believe that all alien life has ceased to exist,  especially for the same reasons.  Some species could thrive on greenhouse gases for all we know. I think it's pretty close minded to think that all species have to live by the same standard as the beings that live on Earth.
