A hospital in France was evacuated after a patient arrived with a rather unusual object stuck in his posterior.
The bizarre incident took place recently at Hospital Sainte Musse in Toulon, France when the man, whose name has not been disclosed, walked into the emergency room with an 8-inch artillery shell stuck in his rectum.
His arrival caused something of a bomb scare with officials concerned that the device might explode.
An assessment by a bomb disposal unit, however, found that the shell was harmless.
"An emergency occurred from 9pm to 11.30pm on Saturday that required the intervention of bomb disposal personnel, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies as well as the diversion of incoming emergencies," a hospital spokesperson told the press.
"We had to manage the risk in a reactive framework. When in doubt, we took all the precautions."
Fortunately for the patient, the shell was removed successfully by doctors a short time later.
We'd rather not ask exactly how it had ended up in there in the first place...
The case echoes a very similar incident which took place in Gloucestershire, England a few years ago when a WW2 memorabilia collector walked into hospital with a tank shell stuck in his rectum.
