88-year-old walks into hospital with WWI shell stuck in his rectum

A hospital in France was evacuated after a patient arrived with a rather unusual object stuck in his posterior.
The bizarre incident took place recently at Hospital Sainte Musse in Toulon, France when the man, whose name has not been disclosed, walked into the emergency room with an 8-inch artillery shell stuck in his rectum.

His arrival caused something of a bomb scare with officials concerned that the device might explode.

An assessment by a bomb disposal unit, however, found that the shell was harmless.

"An emergency occurred from 9pm to 11.30pm on Saturday that required the intervention of bomb disposal personnel, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies as well as the diversion of incoming emergencies," a hospital spokesperson told the press.
"We had to manage the risk in a reactive framework. When in doubt, we took all the precautions."

Fortunately for the patient, the shell was removed successfully by doctors a short time later.

We'd rather not ask exactly how it had ended up in there in the first place...

The case echoes a very similar incident which took place in Gloucestershire, England a few years ago when a WW2 memorabilia collector walked into hospital with a tank shell stuck in his rectum.

You can read more about that one in our book - The Unexplained Mysteries Book of Weird News.

Sex is endlessly fascinating and there is no end to what is sexually interesting to some people-there really isn't. I once worked in an ED, and things stuck up men's bums was one of the most common and serious sexual-related reasons for admission.Vacuum cleaners caused injuries which could be quickly treated ("I was hoovering the stairs and fell against it"), but things up the bum could require surgery and temporary colostomies. Never seen the appeal myself.

I am not a pervert Doc. I was digging in my garden, uncovered the shell, and then the most extraordinary set of circumstances occurred. I tripped and fell in such a bizarre way that I lost my trousers, and underpants, and landed on the shell with it entering my butt. Honest! Dont worry Mr Smith, we have seen it all, the guy in the next cubical over has a small beer keg lodged up his butt,.
