Social media users have taken to penning the number on themselves to see what will happen.
Viral trends have seen a lot of impressionable young TikTok users participate in various ill-advised and in some cases even fatal stunts in recent years and while this particular example is not inherently dangerous, there are some who believe that it can still have a negative psychological effect.
The idea for the trend originated a few years ago but has recently made something of a comeback.
Essentially, it involves writing the number 690452 on your own wrist before going to bed.
According to urban legend, this is allegedly a "cursed" number (also known as the "heaven or hell number") and writing it on your arm will transport you to a "parallel world" when you fall asleep.
The effects of this reportedly range from encountering demons and monsters in your dreams to being permanently trapped in some sort of "dream world".
Of course there is absolutely no reason to believe that any of this is true, but that hasn't stopped a surprising number of people from trying it nonetheless.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this trend is the significance of the number 690452 which doesn't seem to have any inherent meaning outside of the trend itself.
Exactly who came up with this number and why remains unclear - perhaps it was simply invented by a random social media user and then it gained additional meaning as it was being shared around.
The whole thing demonstrates just how easily strange and unfounded beliefs can proliferate online.
