Police eventually got the 76-year-old to stop by running alongside her car and tapping on the window.
Concerns had been raised about the woman's driving after she was spotted driving the wrong way around a roundabout, in the interests of safety police attempted to get her to stop but she refused, instead leading them over 27 miles at around 10mph. When a policeman finally got her attention and explained the situation while running alongside her car she replied - "there is nothing to discuss, I'm going home."
A pensioner who led police on a 27 mile low-speed chase at 10mph finally stopped after an officer tapped on her window while running alongside the car.

This woman was on the radio yesterday and she sounded like you don't want to be on the wrong side of her, she was saying she was appalled at the way the police treated her and that they kept her against her will, I'm sorry but isn't that what happens when you get arrested. I think elderly should retake there tests at 70 if not before the drivers from around here are appalling mounting kerbs, there was one bloke the other week who went through a car park wall because he claimed he went for the break but hit the accelerator instead :\ the fact he was parked the other side of the car park no wher... This is sad, especially, like others said, because these elderly folk have no one to care if they can drive safely or not and if not, to take their keys away. My sisters and I took my dad's keys away from him about a year ago now. He was dangerous on the road and that was that. He still yells and whines and begs for his keys back, but we're not budging. We had to take my Dad's awy. It was sad. My Mom never drove but they loved to go out for a drive. It was one of the few things they did. Now they can't even live alone. it's sad. Must be horrible and scarey to lose the ability to take care of y... [More]

I saw a chase like this once when I was in high school, working at a gas station. An old guy going about 10 or 15 MPH, hunched up against the steering wheel, driving straight through town with 4 police cars behind him. It was quite a sight. I think he might have been hoping they would give up the chase if he made it past the city limits. I feel bad for the elderly in this kind of situation, but it sure was funny to witness the whole thing.
