Nessie Sightings Register is now 20 years old

The Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register has recorded over 1,000 sightings over the last two decades.
There may not have been as many reports of the legendary lake monster in recent years as there have been in the past, but for registry keeper Gary Campbell it's all in a day's work.

"When I started the register I never expected to be doing it this long," he said. "Everybody has their own theory what Nessie is and I doubt anybody will come up with a definitive answer soon."

So far this year there has been one sighting added to the register - that of a woman from Texas who took pictures of a 'dark creature' swimming just beneath the water's surface.

A further five sightings were reported the year before - the most in over a decade.
"The best two credible accounts are from Richard White in 1997 who took a series of photographs of something coming out of the water – and Glasgow postman Bobbie Pollock who in 2000 took a video of an object swimming in Invermoriston Bay," said Campbell.

While skeptics continue to doubt whether there really is anything unusual lurking in the depths of Scotland's famous loch, this fact alone is unlikely to stop visitors to the area glancing out over the water in the hope of catching a glimpse of the world's best known cryptozoological mystery.

"It's 1,450 years now since the first report of a monster in Loch Ness," said Campbell.

"It doesn't look like Nessie's going anywhere just yet."

He said: "Anything that is later proved to a hoax or can be subsequently explained is removed from the register. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-36278853 I am surprised there is anything in the register at all then. But I suppose leaving the odd "Nessy lookalike" log or wave, would it hurt.

"It doesn't look like Nessie’s going anywhere just yet." Not as long as there is a bit of Scottish nectar served along the shoreline.

Not as long as there is a bit of Scottish nectar served along the shoreline. A bit of Scottish nectar served, and a song can start... You'll never find a Nessie in the Zoo Upside-downy Bats, And stripey Cats, And Monkeys too; Big Cow pats, And keeper's hats And things that "wiff" and "phew" Birds that stand on spikey legs, Whilst others "bill" and "coo", Yes, there's an awful lot of sadness in the zoo. You can knock it, You can rock it, You can go to Timbuktu, But you'll never find a Nessy in the zoo. You may see an Anaconda, a Giraffe and Kangaroo, But you'll never see a Nessy in a zoo. While... The people that run the Register must be true believes as the word skeptics is used in the article. Maybe they saw Nessie a time or two while drinking the nectar.

An original Limerick if I may: A beastie that lives in Loch Ness, Caused all of the searchers to guess, "Is it fish? Is it whale? Is it some drunkard's tale?" This quandary caused much distress!
