The object was a classic saucer shape. Image Credit: YouTube / RTV Rijnmond TV
Dick Smits had been videotaping a boat on a canal when he spotted the strange object above him.
The unidentified craft remained in the sky for several minutes over the town of Maassluis to the south of The Hague, the capital city of Southern Holland.

Exhibiting a bluish hue, the object was a typical saucer shape with a rounded dome on the top and a curved underside. In a later interview with the RTV Rijnmond TV organization Smits maintained that he had no idea what it could have been.

To date the nature and origins of the object he saw remain a mystery.

Why does everyone have a really horrid camera when they film stuff like this? I know, right? It does not matter if the video was made in 1974 or 2014, the quality is about the same. Crappy.

Looking at the pic IMO it seems to have angles in it like the F-117. I don't think there are any flying these days but yeah, I see what you mean.

Why does everyone have a really horrid camera when they film stuff like this? he actually got a fairly good shot. The issue with hand-held camera's is hand shake, and things like cameras trying to autofocus when zoomed too much. If you take a pic of a person, youre relaxed and usually wont have to zoom. If you see something in the sky and rush to film it, zooming in and out etc while not seeing much on the display...then yes, you'll have the shakes and be faffing about zooming trying to get a better shot! If ufo's were predictable, people may use tripods. As it usually happens, something is se... [More]

This is definitely a UFO, the U standing for unidentified of course as some think UFO translates into a craft from another planet piloted by our space brothers come to save us from ourselves because they have nothing better to do. Since a lot of people associate UFO with alien craft, Maybe it's time for a new designation. Does WTF seem appropriate?

Why does everyone have a really horrid camera when they film stuff like this? Sometimes it is just the person using the camera wrong.

Looks like ET. Again! Sigh. I am going to the pub. That seems to be the more enjoyable way of killing brain cells. Cheers, Badeskov

I must say, I am not sure how you guys know that it is stationary......I felt sick from motion sickness so couldnt look at it too many times lol You didn't notice how shakey the guy's hands were when he moved the camera?

You didn't notice how shakey the guy's hands were when he moved the camera? yes I did but by default that doesnt make the object stationary......
