A commemorative metal UFO has been placed at the location of the famous 1980 encounter.
The original incident took place near R.A.F Woodbridge in Surrey which at the time was being used by the US Air Force.

Several dozen military personnel witnessed the strange object that appeared in the forest over three successive nights. Colonel Charles Halt famously lead a team of men out in to the woods to investigate during the UFO's third appearance and made a series of audio recordings detailing what he was seeing.

"Our security team observed a light that looked like a large eye, red in colour, moving through the trees," he later said of the incident. "After a few minutes this object began dripping something that looked like molten metal. A short while later it broke into several smaller, white-coloured objects which flew away in all directions."
The case would go on to become the best known UFO case in Britain, sparking worldwide debate that continues to this day. Nobody has ever been able to determine what the men had witnessed in the forest that night and many people believe that what they encountered was not of this Earth.

Now more than 30 years later the Forestry Commission has set up its own metallic interpretation of the mysterious object in the very place where the soldiers originally encountered it.

"Clearly something happened - there's a party who believe it was something military, there are people who believe it was extraterrestrial activity and we respect all opinions," said recreation manager Nigel Turner. "We think it will fit in well, because it offers a goal for people completing the trail and also give an insight into our timber-growing and conservation work."
