William Neil McCasland may have met up with some members of US Space Force the night before he disappeared.
It's a mystery that has endured now for several months and a case that has sparked a more widespread interest in the disappearances of prominent figures across the United States.
The strangeness began on February 27th when McCasland left his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico and vanished without a trace, with nobody having seen him at all since that time.
According to his wife, he had left home without his phone or his watch - a fact that she found particularly odd as, being an experienced outdoorsman, this isn't something he would normally do.
He also suffers from a medical condition that makes his disappearance even more of a concern.
While clues as to what might have happened to him have since been thin on the ground, police investigators recently spoke to an unnamed female witness who reportedly saw McCasland the night before he disappeared.
She maintains that she, along with several members of the US Space Force, actually had dinner with him that evening in Albuquerque at around 6pm local time.
"I was shocked this morning when I saw the alert because what I noticed Thursday evening is that he wasn't his usual self," she told officers at the time of his disappearance.
"He was kind of spacey and quiet and you know that that happens with people."
While this additional testimony doesn't explain what happened to McCasland or where he is now, it does provide further insight into his mental state just before he disappeared.
