Transparent levitating ball

This story was submitted to the site by Reefermadness from Santa Rosa, California.
Sometime around 1990 on a mild somewhat overcast day, I was just about ready to leave the house to run errands around 11am. The house was in a typical suburban neighborhood of Santa Rosa, Ca.

Suddenly, from inside the house, I heard my car horn going on and off intermittently. This was strange because my car was an old 1978 Dodge Volare and it did not have a car alarm system. This was also somewhat annoying as it was parked across the street on the curb in this very quiet neighborhood. I grabbed my keys and went to see what was going on, but as soon as I opened the front door the horn stopped.

So I finished getting ready and headed out to my car. As I stepped into the quiet street and made my way to the car, I saw a transparent floating ball, about 30 yards away, levitating about 3ft above the pavement, coming towards me in a straight unwavering path.

I had experienced some strange phenomenon recently in the remote forest of Northern California where I lived for some time, and had just arrived in Santa Rosa a few days prior.
I was not startled, nor scared; but felt the urge to get into my vehicle before the ball reached me had me somewhat anxious.

Calmly, I took the keys, unlocked the door, and quickly got in and shut the door. By now, the ball was approaching the front of my car, moving about walking speed, and traveling at about side view mirror height.

It floated right by my driver's side window. I watched it continue to travel through my side view mirror. When it turned the corner in the road, I could see it now in my rear view mirror until it moved along and out of sight.

The thing was about the size of a basketball, and perfectly round. It was completely transparent and I could see right though it. It almost seemed like it wanted to be invisible. It did not change shape or size, and it did not waver in its path along the street.

It was very strange, and a little unnerving. I do not believe it was paranormal. I got the impression that it was some sort of a drone, or a spy, that was not intended to be noticed. Has anyone out there experienced this? I have not been able to find a similar account.

@Reefermadness I'm thinking this might have been a paranormal object that many people call an 'orb'. They are claimed to carry energy that disturbs electronic items (like a car horn). Experts say orbs are a way for a non-physical entity to manifest in our physical plane that requires the least amount of energy. Are you aware of the other orb phenomena claims? You mention other weird stuff had been happening to you before this. Care to elaborate as the paranormal is often not a one and done thing. You mentioned a drone possibility. I have never heard of a translucent one like that particularly ... [More]

Basketball size? The one I saw with my naked eyes was  maybe three-quarters the size of a basketball.

I've seen this phenomenon more than once. I looked it up, pretty sure it was ball lightning.

I have witnessed ball lightening twice--not rare enough for me. One while living in Owasso, OK and the other here in Dallas. The first was green and was generated from a storm's lightening strike hitting some kind of copper, multi-piece device, about the size of an Essex Ottoman. It was outside and that size above ground. The parts that continue below ground—pipes, as to their size or depth, I could not say. The device was atop a small man-made mound at a small distance from a railroad track. The device is no longer there because of the addition of a rail yard.  I saw the lightening bolt,... [More]
