Neil Armstrong decries US space program

The former astronaut condemned the state of the space program as "embarrassing" and "unacceptable."
Speaking at a Congressional hearing with Eugene Cernan, Armstrong openly criticised NASA's current state and the fact that America has no reliable means with which to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station. "For a country that has invested so much for so long to achieve a leadership position in space exploration and exploitation, this condition is viewed by many as lamentably embarrassing and unacceptable," he said.
Being 81 and 77 years old, repectively, and having achieved much in their careers, Armstrong and Cernan have nothing to prove nor favor to curry – and their comments reflected that freedom.

But even the Enterprise has powerful weapons, just in case Phew. Safe at last. But it is such a waste. All of the NASA experience and history just... I sure as hell am not gonna stand and applaud Chinese astronauts. Why? you ask. Because they won't be doing anything except for the Panda.

The guy prolly posted that comment from his smartphone while driving down the street guided by his GPS ... see where I'm going with this ... ??? LMAO I think most of us, save that guy, see where you're going with this... ...and he probably was coming from the MRI appointment he had for his bad knee, and threw something into the microwave when he got home to heat it up for dinner, and after that he got on his PC so he could post here!

I think that it's worth everyone's time to view this two hours of statements and testimonies. It's very important. But I think it's also pertinent to cut through alot of eloquent speech, and passionate statements, all of which are correct, and quote a few comments, so as to clearly indicate what they are saying...what the jist of what was said really is. Mr. Armstrong: "NASA, hobbled by Congress' limitations has been unable to articulate a master plan that excites the imagination and provides a semblance of predictability to the aerospace industry. "We will have no access to nor return from lo... [More]

Our he was what was for dinner and the Microwave fryed his brain a bit too much ,the excess radiation killed his PC then he got so mad that he jumped ! Maybe !

Just reading the coments on this site for the first time and found it all very interesting. If the US can and have developed aircraft that can fly undetected around this globe, then it is not inconceivable to imagine that a vehicle could be developed to fly from earth to space and back again without being detected or alerting others to its presence. Looking at the technological advances that have occured in the last decade it would not be surprising that should this capability exist that the moon is no longer on the radar but far more ambitious projects. If this is the case then it is unsurpri... [More]

Why would it need to fly undetected? And who is alerted by the presence of a manned spacecraft, save those in control of it. Like what? Interesting. I'm not sure it's relevant, but I'd be interested in discovering exactly what you're talking about.

For the same reason spy planes need to fly undetected...obviously secrecy is the big one, so that no one knows you are up there in the first place, what capability you have, what your agenda is, how long you have been up there, what you have found out and what you intend to do with that information. Look at the vertical development curve of the SR71 in comparison to aircraft of the same time and even those developed afterwards. That was a huge leap. But was it the only one? That was fifty years ago. And no one knew about it then save those who built and designed it. It is understandable that e... [More]

A U.S. manned exploration program has never been secret. If you think no one would know we were up there, I think you're sadly mistaken. The entire world knew we went to the Moon between 1969 and 1972, even the Soviets. Look at the vertical development curve of the SR71 in comparison to aircraft of... [More]

A U.S. manned exploration program has never been secret. If you think no one would know we were up there, I think you're sadly mistaken. The entire world knew we went to the Moon between 1969 and 1972, even the Soviets. And those who managed it, and those who test flew it, and piloted it in OPS, and who supported its operations, and etc...etc...further, it wasn't a manned lunar landing mission, and such an endeavor is neither secret nor a spy mission. It's not just enthusiasts. It's those who know what we're capable of, whee we should be, and why we're not doing that stuff who are understandab... [More]
