Bigfoot put forward as 'endangered species'

A motel operator in New York State is seeking to have Bigfoot added to a local endangered species list.
Despite the controversy surrounding the Bigfoot phenomenon and the fact that Sasquatch has never even been recognized as a real creature, one man has taken it upon himself to fight for the right to have the hairy hominid protected as an endangered species.

Peter Wiemer made the case to Chatauqua County legislators on the basis that such a designation could result in a significant boost to the local tourist industry as well as ensuring that efforts are taken to protect the creature from harm if indeed it does exist.
Wiemer himself is no stranger to cryptozoology having investigated the creature for many years. Among his finds are a plaster cast of an alleged Bigfoot footprint as well as records of at least 17 different sightings in and around the local area over the last few years.

Despite insisting that granting the creature protected status would be the "right thing to do" however there has so far been no indication that local lawmakers will be taking him up on his suggestion.

Well, I don't want to presume, but I would point out that the whole spotted owl thing happened in what, the early eighties? You now have different people in positions of power, and you have an EPA and other Government agencies that can now make rules without the approval of Congress. Essentially they can simply impose laws without having to go through the legislative system now. There are several states that have cases going to the USSC over this very point now. Their contention is that any time the Government branch changes or creates new guidelines that people and industries are bound to obe... [More]

Pompous replies incoming... Your 'imaginary' number 1 for sure. Waste lawmakers time making laws that do not really effect us so they may feel validated without infringing on some new imaginary threat that actually stifles our freedoms I say. Law makers have to make laws anyways. Which way would you have it?

Dumb laws in Washington: The harassing of Bigfoot, Sasquatch or other undiscovered subspecies is a felony punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment. X-rays may not be used to fit shoes. No person may walk about in public if he or she has the common cold. Destroying a beer cask or bottle of another is illegal. All motor vehicles must be preceded by a man carrying a red flag (daytime) or a red lantern (nighttime) fifty feet in front of said vehicle. It is illegal to pretend that one’s parents are rich. When two trains come to a crossing, neither shall go until the other has passed. You cannot b... [More]

Either way you look at it lawmakers make laws. Give them something benign. Every year more laws are added and it wont stop. At what point are we being babysat instead of living free? At least we all have a big brother looking out for us. Lol

At least we all have a big brother looking out for us. Lol The whole 'stealing my freedoms' crap is getting old. Patriot act is stupid, but in over a decade that has past since, it's never affected my life. I'm glad you can't smoke in bars or restaurants anymore. I was glad when I was a smoker. In any case, my original post was a joke, as I thought would be obvious from the inclusion of danish people. I'm not goin... [More]

IN1... We all see the naysayers jumping in saying why did we waste money studying this or that. Or why waste time with this. I guess I am just tired of that mantra myself. All in all though we are good. And to the bar part. If an owner wants to allow smoking or has a seperate room to smoke it should be the owners decision and the patrons decision to not patron.
