Obama's former pilot recalls UFO encounter

Veteran pilot Andrew Danziger experienced something unexplained during a flight from Kansas City in 1989.
Danziger and his captain Bruce had been on a flight to Waterloo, Iowa when they became aware of a partially obscured white disc-shaped object a short distance away from their plane.

The object seemed to stay with them for over 30 minutes and despite confirming with air traffic control that the sky was clear the disc continued to appear obscured as if hidden by fog.

Neither pilot was able to determine what it could be.

As they approached within 40 miles of their destination however the disc seemed to suddenly disappear and a red glowing ball-shaped object appeared in its place.

"It was big and bright and just sat there above the clouds," Danziger wrote. "It wasn't intense enough to illuminate us with a red glow but it was still plenty bright. We sat there in stunned silence."
After a further 30 seconds it disappeared behind the clouds only to be replaced by a peculiar flashing light show that was unlike anything that they had ever seen before.

"The flashing lights were brighter than ever and I could see that the section of the cloud that the glowing red ball had descended behind was starting to stretch apart like a piece of 'Silly Putty,' two halves being pulled slowly apart with the middle getting thinner and thinner," wrote Danziger.

"This continued until the halves grew so thin that it tore apart and, pop! Everything was gone."

The pair contacted air traffic control about what they'd witnessed but were told that nothing had been picked up on radar. Both men ultimately decided to keep their encounter a secret to protect their careers and didn't share the tale with anyone again for over 25 years.

No conclusive explanation for what they witnessed that night has ever been found.

Sure, I doubt they would as well. Well, pilots should be more concerned about their passengers comfort and safety first. Alarming passsengers about spotting a UFO is rather ridiculous. Could you imagine a plane full of passengers, stampeding towards the small windows - trampling and shoving everyone out of the way - so they can get a picture with their camera ? I imagine the only time a Captain would alert passengers, is for a few reasons - like a bumpy ride ahead due to bad weather conditions, a mechanical problem, where an emergency landing may be required.....or god forbid, a terrorist conc... I know people, including family that saw the boomerang. When I told them the official explanation they laughed. the Hudson valley event is one I have never looked into at all. Sounds interesting though

That's about right, we don't tell passengers much, most of them are reasonable, but because there are some people who will overreact and possibly cause more harm than good, we follow airline policy to keep UFO's reports reserved for superiors and certain ground staff. Most smaller and foreign airlines don't have any policies regarding UFO reporting. One of the reasons pilots will not even tell staff, is because if we are suspected of lying, exaggerating, or even losing our mind, it's redundancy arrangements up next. Hi Starhunter, do you happen to be a pilot - or have been a pilot ?Iv'e notice... [More]

Hi Astra, I have been well thank you, hope likewise. And yes good idea, I would be up for looking into this case. Yes, I'm well also, thankyou Well, I'm not very familiar with the Hudson Valley case either. It seems that Hawkin and preacherman may know more. It might be a good case to check out, and give those that are interested, something newish to get their pearly whites into-- It seems cases like Roswell, Phoenix Lights, JAL, etc....have been done to death. Even so, they are still fascinating events, and will remain so for a very long time.

I agree, the pilots saw a UFO and lots of people see UFOs. The idea that the government runs around *whacking* UFO witnesses is kind of silly. From my understanding of this, (and living on a military base, with a husband in the AF), I am surprised that they did report it. I'm use to it always being hushed hushed, with those who do report it I have noticed ending up worse in their careers for it. Or so I heard. Anyways, I am reminded of someone I lived near, who worked in one part of the base that seeing interesting things might be usual, but to mention it was a no no. In a conversation, said s... [More]

How naive can I be? Here is a very good example (out of xxx^): By the way, if you do see a crashed one, don't go anywhere near it or even in sight, because you'll probably won't find out why.

In the linked story he says he was a young pilot for a regional airline. (and not flying Obama's plane) ... http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.2177099 So by inference there would have likely been passengers aboard. Maybe one of them reported it to MUFON .... wait, was MUFON around in '89? I don't know what the protocol is officially for pilots, but the attitudes surrounding UFOs was different in '89. While I have heard anecdotes of pilot's careers being ruined for reporting ufos, I try and only believe 90% of what I see on TV
