The UFO Phenomenon

Did MI5 pay people to make fake crop circles?

A former RAF engineer claims that MI5 hired crop circle hoaxers to discredit the UFO phenomenon.
David Clayton, who has spent a great deal of time investigating crop circles, cattle mutilations and other mysteries relating to UFOs, maintains that many of the peculiar crop formations that have appeared in fields over the years were created specifically to discredit the phenomenon.

Speaking at the UFO Truth Magazine international annual conference last week, Clayton put forward his belief that most of the crop circles that have appeared in the UK from the 1990s onwards have been produced under the instructions of British intelligence services for the purpose of discrediting the UFO phenomenon and to turn attention away from the possibility of extraterrestrial visitation.
Fellow Ufologist Gary Hestletine has also suggested that authorities have been making efforts to downplay legitimate phenomena and has criticized the media for always making light of the subject.

"The press are not doing you a fair turn," he said.

"It's time to lift the blinkers a bit and look at the very best evidence. If you do that you will have overwhelming evidence that ET is here and has been for many years."

It would just be photoshopped. No, not if it ISN'T. Some of us actually know enough about imaging to generally be able to tell, especially given access to the original image. And most of us SHOULD be able to examine an image in conjunction with the story that attaches to it and make a sensible conclusion about just how worthy that image and story is....

This controversy can be ended immediately. All the M15 people have to do is hire the artist or artists that they say they payed and take the most complicated crop circle out there and pay them to recreate it overnight with no sign of a human being was there.

Interestingly, the Area 51 sightings, that were so intertwined with the notion of the integration of UFO/alien technology, were never discouraged by the government. Rather, these sightings fostered a potential belief that the government had markedly advanced their defensive capability through alien technology. What an imaginative way to capitalize upon a false belief to keep your cold war opponents wary. A belief, real or false, is the element that determines how one will react to given situation. And, indeed, such a belief becomes great fodder for selling a new book.

MI 5 isn't making the claim, the ufologist is.

The lame claim by crop circle people is that it is not possible for people to make them. The absurd claim is made for the crystal skulls and most megalithic structures. Here is the interesting part of the article to me. Mr Clayton admitted that most crop circles that had been highlighted since the 1990s were fakes, but real ones had been found. If Clayton is so sure that "real ones had been found", then please point them out. One of the main failures of crop circle believers is pointing out the so-called real ones. Point them out. Has Clayton ever pointed out the real ones as he calls them? Le... [More]

35 years. They dropped that claim when forced crushing was shown to produce the same effects they claimed were the result of heat, as I recall.

I would think that MI5 has alot of more pressing concers than to concern themselves with crop circle hoaxes.

I would think that MI5 has alot of more pressing concers than to concern themselves with crop circle hoaxes. Not if they're real!

All the M15 people have to do is hire the artist or artists that they say they payed and take the most complicated crop circle out there and pay them to recreate it overnight with no sign of a human being was there. And why would MI5 do that?If they're involved with paying members of the public to hoax crop circles to fool the public for some reason, then they're hardly going to come out and show how they do it. If they're not involved with paying members of the public to hoax crop circles to tool the public for some reason, then they also have no rea... [More]
