Alien robots may account for the Fermi paradox

A new theory has put forward the possibility that killer robots have wiped out all intelligent alien life.
The question of whether we are alone in the universe remains one of the biggest philosophical conundrums of our time. While it seems almost inconceivable that our civilization is alone in the cosmos, the fact still remains that we have yet to see any evidence to the contrary.

The Fermi paradox, which highlights the contradiction between the likely existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the fact that we have still never encountered any, seems to suggest that either there are no aliens out there, that they have simply never found us, or that they are extremely rare.

Now theoretical physicist Alexander Berezin from the National Research University of Electronic Technology in Russia has come up with another possible explanation, one that, in addition to addressing the Fermi paradox, also echoes concerns about the dangers of AI research.
His theory suggests that a runaway artificial intelligence could potentially become so overwhelmingly unstoppable that it may have already managed to wipe out all intelligent alien life in the cosmos.

"The incentive to grab all available resources is strong, and it only takes one bad actor to ruin the equilibrium, with no possibility to prevent them from appearing at interstellar scale," he said.

"One rogue AI can potentially populate the entire supercluster with copies of itself, turning every solar system into a supercomputer, and there is no use asking why it would do that."

"All that matters is that it can."

There is no such thing as artificlal intelligence. creation is creation do not project contructs on the fabric of the universe. "The theory of everything is" nothing is impossible "nothing doesnt exist" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boltzmann_brain

Irrelevant gibberish. You should spend more like reading the links you post.

I think this member has a point. We think of nature as natural events without the interference of humans. But whatever we humans do is nature as well. Just because a tin building didn't grow our of the ground doesn't mean it is not a natural phenomenon in this sense.  In this way of thinking, artificial intelligence is a natural evolution of the human biological brain. Everything possible is a manifestation of the natural fabric of the universe.  Something 'artificial' would be a construct created by some method external to the physical universe.

AI probes, interesting theory, maybe right....but, where is any tangible evidence? I would suspect that we would have uncovered, here on Earth, some artifact.  We have uncovered artifacts of pre-historic man, bones, tools, ect even after the passage of time.  And time is not too kind with said degradation of artifacts.  Yet, I would think that probes would have some lasting properties that archeologist would have stumble upon...trace evidence at worst. But nothing has surfaced at this point in time.

I never encountered a live unicorn.  I guess I never will now.  Those bl00dy trolls - first the leprechauns, then the Loch Ness monster, now the unicorns...  So sad. What I never really understood was - how can unicorns be pink, if they're invisible?

Why should they? I mean why should they come here? Whats the reason for them to contact us? They may observe us at distance for scientific interest but other than that they have nothing to gain by greeting us. So why bother? See it this way, let me say you are out on a car trip, from a to b, do you stop at every house and building on the road knocking at the door and greeting the residents? Cant speak for you, but most of us dont. I dont see why they should come here especially when we are not at the same scientific level. About the Robots, well after the AI has eradicated or chased the creato... [More]
