The peculiar post targeted conspiracy theorists with a rather humorous play on the late astronaut's name.
The Apollo moon landings, in addition to being a groundbreaking achievement for humanity, have managed to generate more conspiracy theories over the years than any other event in history.
Now a new meme has surfaced that demonstrates, in a rather tongue-in-cheek fashion, just how easy it is to assign conspiratorial significance to something that is otherwise totally meaningless.
The meme, which was recently reposted by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, draws attention to the fact that if you take Neil Armstrong's first name and initial - Neil A - and read it backwards, it spells "alien".
"There are no coincidences," Musk wrote.
Despite its silliness, the Tweet managed to rack up over half a million likes in two days.
Keen to emphasize just how meaningless this reverse spelling actually is, Musk followed it up with:
"Evian, the first bottled water, is naive spelled backwards."
