Mystery of downed UFOs over US sparks 'alien invasion' fears

Following the downing of a large Chinese balloon last week, US jets have since shot down a further three unidentified objects and there could still be several more of them out there.

The first of the three, which was described as "cylindrical and silver-ish gray", was shot down by an F-22 Raptor after it was observed flying at an altitude of around 40,000ft over Alaska.

The second was downed a short time later over Canada, followed by a third over Michigan.While US investigators are working to recover and identify the wreckage of these objects, speculation has been rife in the media as to what the objects could be and where they came from.

The phenomenon has even sparked fears of an alien invasion.

"The one thing [that] is troubling me here, I sort of see a pattern as I looked at social media this morning," said Jim Himes of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

"All of a sudden, massive speculation about alien invasions and additional Chinese action or Russian action. In the absence of information, people's anxiety leads them into potentially destructive areas."

"So I do hope very soon the administration has a lot more information."

As things stand, all we can do is speculate and wait for more details to be forthcoming.
