Have historians located the Holy Grail ?

Has the Grail finally been found ? Image Credit: Jose Claudio Antolinez
Two Spanish historians believe that they have identified the whereabouts of the legendary chalice.
No artifact has inspired more research and intrigue throughout history than the fabled Holy Grail, the cup said to have once held the blood of Christ.

There have been many interpretations of the Grail legend over the centuries including the idea that it was in fact the wife of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, but the most common interpretation suggests that the Grail was a physical chalice or drinking vessel.
Having spent three years investigating the legend for their book "The Kings of the Grail", researchers Margarita Torres and José Ortega del Río believe that they have finally worked out where the relic resides - a church in León in northern Spain.

According to their research, the Grail is in fact concealed within another prominent artifact called the Chalice of Doña Urruca that has resided at the church for almost 1000 years.

"The only chalice that could be considered the chalice of Christ is that which made the journey to Cairo and then from Cairo to León - and that is this chalice," said Torres. "This is a very important discovery because it helps solve a big puzzle."

I'm sure someone thinks that. I'd be surprised if no one thought that. But, i think its similar to the shroud of turin. Christians feel like all the suffering they go through in this life is for a purpose that they read about in a book. having something solid, something they can hold in their and, it gives them something real they can connect to their faith.

I'm totally unconvinced. When this Chalice starts to be related to miracles, then people will sit up and take notice. Some golden icon locked in a room, regardless of how old it is, does not seem like it would be the Grail.

1. If you *did* want to announce this, you'd choose April 1? 2. Why does the book they are referring to, seem not to exist anywhere? They supposedly published it last month - can anyone show me a link? Amazon? anywhere? I grant that the cup looks quite interesting in a kitschy sort of way and that it exists and has a checkered *recent* history. As for it being what is claimed, I'd give 98% chance of Aprilfoolery. BTW, here's the editing history on the Wiki page. Created April 1, at 00:34 am.... Any questions? I think Stalwart 111 has sum 'splainin to do..

Problem is, one painting has made everyone think it took place like this. But...its just an artists imagination! Painted as recently as 1495–149 [DaVinci's Last Supper] But how do we know it wasnt like this [outdoor picnic scene] . because the Bible story says it happened in an "upper room" Matthew 26:17-30 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am goi... [More]

Who's the chick in blue next to Jesus? Some say it's Mary Magdalene .... as Judas had already left.. before partaking of the wine now on the table. At the last supper we find Judas partook of the bread (a symbol of Jesus’ body- flesh), Judas dipped with the bread with Jesus but he left before he could partake of the wine (a symbol of Christ’s blood shed on the cross) Jn.13:26-30. http://www.letusreason.org/doct48.htm John 13:26-30 New International Version (NIV) 26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping t... Having trawled through all of the major newspapers in Spain, I cannot find any references to this "find". It should have been front - page headlines

Unless the cup was passed down from his royal linages...or a gift from a patron....a poor carpender/preacher would not have owned a cup like that It is rather pretty though

One interpretation I heard is that the grail is metaphoric and means spring/well. In the original french text it is called san graal and is located on the Mons Salvaiges (old french for "forested mountain"). You can use cauldron synonymously for graal. Also in the oldest texts the grail gives immortality to whoever finds it. Cauldrons are associated with springs and people believed that springs/wells have healing power and worshiped them. Also Cerdiwen or Brigantia were associated with springs. Secondly the term "forested mountain" is quiet weird, but if we consider that in gallia people met u... [More]
