Can you conjure up a ghost with your mind ?

Is the paranormal all in the mind ? Image Credit: sxc.hu
In the 1970s a group of researchers conducted a unique experiment to create their own paranormal entity.
Known as the 'Philip Experiment', the endeavor involved parapsychological researchers from the Toronto Society for Psychical Research and aimed to determine if it was possible to manifest an entity using nothing more than the power of the mind.

To do this, the group started out by creating a complete history for their entity, who they called Philip. Over the space of a year they talked about this fictional individual amongst themselves, focusing on what he would look like and willing him to appear to them.
Finally in 1973 during a seance, Philip actually started to communicate to the group by rapping on the table and causing the lights to dim. The results were so impressive that they attempted the same thing again in front of a video camera and audience, this time succeeding in having the table levitate in front of more than 50 people.

But what do these results mean ? Could the Philip Experiment indicate that with enough willpower it is possible to break through and connect with the other side or does it imply that paranormal experiences are in fact nothing more than a product of the human subconscious ?

"Conjuring" up images of things, if that is what it should be called, is not bringing the real object to you but just reversing the mental process of vision so that your brain decides to "see" something that you choose to see. It is a meditative exercise that should not be over-interpreted. There is nothing "real" there. What it shows us is that what we see in normal vision is not "real" either, but entirely generated by our brains. The green of the lawn is not something of the grass but generated in our heads.

Answer to that question is yes one can.... Tulpas are a bit like ghosts (but with like a part of spirit which comes from the person themselves) and something which can be created by the mind. Its like children and their imaginary friends, some of those are their own creations which before very real to them.

Yes you can bring a haunting into a place with your mind, energy and old story's can bring spirits into a place, there are records of story's being told over and over and people start to see this ghost, but it's energy forming its self into the story's that are being told even when these events never took place!!

Good question and pertinent to possible mechanisms of activation and interaction with the concept known as ghosts. Tulpas are a relevant tangent here: Tulpa (Tibetan: སྤྲུལ་པ, Wylie: sprul-pa; Sanskrit: निर्मित nirmita[1] and निर्माण nirmāṇa;[2] Japanese: タルパ tarupa;[3] "to build" or "to construct") also translated as "magical emanation",[4] "conjured thing" [5] and "phantom" [6] is a concept in mysticism of a being or object which is created through sheer spiritual or mental discipline alone. It is defined in Indian Buddhist texts as any unre... [More]

Poltergeists are usually brought on by a specific person. So this can happen. Poltergeist are considered in comtemporary researches and investigations of such phenomenon to be a manifestation of psychokinesis effect (RSPK), usunally by an agent unaware of causing physcial disturbances. It is not considered to be a ''conjuration'' of a disembodied entity, of what may be considered a ''ghost''.

Yes you're right, they are usually oblivious to the fact that they are bringing on the manifestations. Still it makes me wonder if it is possible to consciously bring them on as well?
