Authorities in northern Austria have been investigating multiple sightings of a rogue kangaroo this week.
The lost marsupial, which is more than 8,000 miles from its home country of Australia, has been sighted bounding around in the forests and fields near to the town of Kirchschlag.

"It sounds unbelievable, but it's true," said one police officer. "We have called all the zoos and kangaroo breeders around us, but no-one is missing a kangaroo."

"We hope the owner will come forward."
In Austria, an animal like a kangaroo requires a special permit to keep, meaning that authorities are treating this one in the same way as they might treat a stray dog.

Actually catching it however has so far proven to be easier said than done.

People and their exotic pets will never learn. With enough sightings a good tracker should be able to scent (if it's male) and bait a good spot. There's probably some rich people in Austria who know which one is hiding or missing a kangaroo.

This is a joke straight from dumb and dumber right!?  I hope they catch the poor guy. Shouldn't have to suffer just because he misspelled his home country when he booked his ticket.

Looks like a larger type wallaby. If more get out they will breed and become a pest there. There are wild wallaby populations in the UK that are doing well.Over here atm the farmers have been given rights to shoot large numbers of roos due to drought.

Austria home of the Alps,  yodeling  funny hats and lederhosen, skiing, and kangaroos... looks like someone had an illigal pet and got tired of it and just let it out or it did escape :-(

One Kangaroo in Austria and they have a clear video of it, but why we don't have more than blurry and shaky video of a bigfoot when we are supposed to have a breeding population in North america... just why?
