Popular new 'song' is 10 minutes of silence

As it happens, however, the unimaginatively titled 'A a a a a Very Good Song' actually serves a very important purpose and it's all to do with how the iPhone plays music when it has been plugged in.

The problem is that the device will typically start on the same song every time, an irritation that has left users looking for a way to pause playback long enough for them to queue up their preferred songs.The new track does exactly that by auto-playing ten minutes of nothing at all. Its unusual name is designed to force it right to the top of the device's playlist which is sorted alphabetically.

With more than 12,000 copies sold, it has already managed to reach #67 in the charts and is likely to make its inventor, Samir Mezrahi, rather wealthy if it continues to do well.

Whether Apple will continue to allow it to be sold on the platform however remains to be seen.
