Chinese engineer marries his 'female' robot

Who needs a real wife when you can just marry a robot ? Image Credit: sxc.hu
31-year-old Zheng Jiajia decided to marry one of his inventions after failing to find a human partner.
The artificial intelligence expert had become so disillusioned by his failed attempts to find himself a girlfriend that he created a 'female' robot named Yingying and decided to marry that instead.

The robot is currently only able to say a few simple words and can identify Chinese characters, however Zheng intends to implement a number of upgrades to improve her capabilities.
On the big day itself, which was attended by Zheng's mother and friends, Yingying's head was hidden behind a traditional wedding veil as the couple were bound in matrimony.

As bizarre as it sounds, some experts predict that it will become commonplace for humans to marry robots within as little as 30 years and that, like in movies such as Blade Runner, they will eventually become practically indistinguishable from the real thing.

It's probably for the best! I have a brother who married a real woman from China. She took him for everything he had. left him broke and living in a VA retirement home for the homeless. Now she owns a condo in California.

A lot more males than females in Chinaland. To be honest, if in the near future there is a breakthrough in robotics and you can have yourself a robotic companion of sorts, I am sure many people would opt for that.

(from the caption of the pic of the robot) " Yingying can identify simple Chinese characters and speak a few simple words. " Making "her" smarter than me...

This is really creepy to me, not to mention extremely weird.

Gary Numan once asked "Are 'Friends' electric?", Zheng Jiajia clearly thinks the answer is yes!

Fair enough, each to their own. The only person this affects is Zheng Jiajia so even if some people think this is disturbing their opinions are entirely irrelevant. Personally I fail to see the benefits of such a situation, but if Zheng is content with it then that's all that really matters.

so the robot was recognized to be human and received a birth certificate before hand after which of course marriage followed... interesting

So I take it their baby will be a cyborg?
